Hirnelektrische Korrelate kognitiver Beanspruchung bei simulierter haptischer Exploration

Project in cooperation with EEG-Fo-Labor (M. Grunwald) and MIT Touch Lab, USA (M. Srinivasan)

The haptic perception of stimuli will be done A) by the PHANTOM and B) by the back side of the PHANTOM stick. All in all, 6 sunken reliefs will be presented to each test person in the course of experiment. The same six sunken reliefs will be used for task A and B. The order in which the sunken reliefs will be presented differs from test person to test person. A 19-channel EEG of the test persons will be recorded and saved digitally during haptic perception tasks. In both experimental settings, motion/motor signals of the axes X, Y, Z of the PHANTOM device will be transformed to an analogous signal (range of µV). They will be fead into the EEG-pre-amplifier as trigger signals Poly 1, Poly 2, Poly 3, and Poly 4 (X+Y+Z) and they will parallel be recorded to the EEG signal. The scanning frequence of the EEG and of the trigger channels occurs with 256 Hz.

Aims of the study:

1. Description of general behavioural differences between the two conditions of haptic perception (simulated and real).

2. Description of general EEG changes and EEG differences between the two ways of haptic perception.

3. Description of the relation between biological (EEG) and behavioural data
